finnegans brew co. // spring 20
i helped my younger brother name a beer. minnesota united football club (nicknamed “the loons”) has several support groups. as one of their most dedicated, true north elite holds watch parties for every away match at a local brewery called finnegans. the groups decided to create a collab beer to celebrate the partnership, and alex pulled me in to help brainstorm names. the beer was a german keller—”cellar”—pilsner. we came up with a few good options, but everyone really liked this one. alliteration is usually a solid bet, and we really liked that the name works on several levels. if you’re at all familiar with soccer nomenclature, you know that the only players using their hands are called the goalkeepers. on top of that, true north elite’s battlecry is “the keepers of the north.” lastly, i love to imagine some hermitic german dude toiling away in his alpine brewery, fancying himself the watchman over the country’s true pride and joy. the beer is only available at the taphouse, so there’s no actual packaging. i threw this together myself.
